Product Description

Russian SKS Rifle

The Russian SKS Semi-Auto 7.62x39 Rifle has a conventional carbine layout, with a wooden stock and no pistol grip. The SKS is a gas-operated weapon that has a spring-loaded operating rod and a gas piston rod that work the action via gas pressure pushing against them. Also, it has a "tilting bolt" action locking system.

The SKS's five-round box magazine is fed from a stripper clip and rounds stored in the magazine can be removed by depressing a magazine catch located forward of the trigger guard (thus opening the "floor" of the magazine and allowing the rounds to fall out).

All military SKSs have a bayonet attached to the underside of the barrel, which is extended and retracted via a spring-loaded hinge.

These will need to be cleaned thoroughly before using.

The stocks will have handling marks & scratches.

All are refurbished to some degree.

Comes with:

  • Factory Cleaning Kit
  • Oil Can

  1. Tell the guys what you want in a SKS 4 Star Review

Posted by on 30th Sep 2016

Got my rifle pretty quickly, can't complain. Rifle was in great mechanical shape. Inner components, receiver, and barrell rifling were top notch. Was a bit surprised the wooden stock was pretty ratty looking. I ordered mine to Edmonton, so it could have been slim pickings. High cal guys are really cool, always there to help, and unlike most gun shops and weapons technicians don't try to make people feel stupid. They'll take there time helping you out. Excellent source for you newer gun guys to go.

  2. Russian 1953 SKS 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Nov 2015

I received my SKS in the mail today from HiCal. I'm always skeptical when ordering something online when you have to trust the vendors word and with no pictures.

Upon opening the box and seeing this immaculate 62 year old rifle in pristine condition, I can tell you all my worries subsided.

The stock is in excellent shape, so good that I do not want to mess with the finish by taking the cosmoline off. I purchase the Phoenix Technology Kicklite and will store the original. The finish of the metal is in excellent condition, all matching numbers. Very pleased.

  3. sks rifle 4 Star Review

I have just received my 1954 sks rifle, the stock was a little beat up but the rifle was in excellent + condition. I removed the stock stripped it down to bare wood (which was very nice under the old finish) by using steel wool.I then stained it with a maple stain and 3 coats of varnish. It looks like it just came out of the show room. I would have to say that the rifle is well worth the money and I don't think you can go wrong with the quality of this product..

  4. Just as nice as the first one. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 29th Mar 2015

I was so impressed with the first arsenal-refurbished Russian SKS that I received from HiCal that I decided to order a second one as a gift for someone special. The second SKS, a 1953 from the Tula Arsenal, arrived this week, and I’m very pleased with it. It is every bit as nice than the first SKS from HiCal. After the installation of a Timbersmith Monte Carlo stock (I’m thinking black laminate), it will be ready for wrapping.

These SKS's are so much rifle for the money, and they are such fun to shoot. I continue to be amazed by the accuracy that these rifles deliver at 100+ yards with the relatively inexpensive non-corrosive FMJ, SP and HP ammo that I use in them. You don't get bolt action accuracy from a semi-auto, of course, but it's really quite excellent. The simplicity of its design and operation makes the SKS extremely reliable, and also very fast and easy to disassemble for cleaning. Another plus is the wide variety of aftermarket accessories and upgrades currently available for SKS’s.

There’s a couple of things about these SKS's from HiCal that are not mentioned on the website. First, they do NOT come covered in cosmoline like some SKS's do that have been in long term storage. From personal experience, I can assure you that this is a good thing. Secondly, on both SKS’s that I’ve purchased from HiCal, the non-detachable steel magazine was pinned so that a portion of the serial number on the magazine’s base was NOT obscured by the rivet as has been the case on some SKS’s that I’ve encountered. Speaking of serial numbers, there were matching serial numbers on both refurbs that I received from HiCal.

My thanks to HiCal for shipping this second SKS on the same day that I ordered it. Shipping doesn't get any faster than that.

  5. In Excellent Condition and a Real Bargain 5 Star Review

Posted by on 24th Dec 2014

The SKS that I received from HiCal was a 1950 Russian Simonov SKS originating from the Tula Arsenal. Being manufactured in 1950, this was my first SKS with a spring-loaded firing pin as opposed to the floating firing pin introduced in 1951. While there are pro's and con's to this, I am personally pleased that I now have an SKS in which I can fire brass-cased American 7.62×39mm ammunition without having to be concerned about a possible primer puncture.

The SKS supplied by HiCal was in truly excellent condition. There were no scratches on the metal or wood, excellent bluing and a decent trigger pull (for an SKS). With this particular SKS, it will not be necessary for me to shorten or replace the sear in order to reduce the excessive creep which is common to so many SKS triggers.

The SKS did exhibit an very unusual (in my experience) functional problem involving movement of the piston in the gas tube. I certainly can't fault HiCal for this since the problem could only be detected by firing the rifle, and only diagnosed by disassembling it. I communicated the details of this problem to Dave at HiCal who acted quickly to resolve it to my complete satisfaction. As a result of this experience, it became clear to me that the "Services" in High Caliber Services do not end with the sale of a product. To me, this is important.
