• Remove your boring 5.56 upper and toss it aside
• Remove the charging handle, back-plate, guide rods, and guide rod springs
• Install the 9mm buffer onto the guide rods at the back touching the bread slice
• install the upper on your lower as you normally would
• If the mag adapter is tight, add some oil and tappa tappa
• it’ll wear into your lower and drop free next time

The buffer gets pretty chewed up after a thousand rounds or so but keeps on trucking so long as it remains suspended by the guide rods
